In celebration of Gundam 30th anniversary, an event Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009 (organized by Bandai Asia and Sheng Tai Toys) is held from 2nd to 14th September 2009 at Compass Point (Sengkang). I believe this is the first time a Gundam only event of such scale was held in Singapore.
Errm, we don’t get to have the 1:1 60 feet life-size Gundam statue (See Google Images) as Tokyo Odaiba but this Gundam 00 is enough to get all the shutterbugs and mecha-fans attention! It’s really difficult to get a shot of Gundum 00 without anyone posing in front.
One of the walls at Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009. Nice artwork that incorporated Gundam and BB Senshi Sangokuden Gaiden.
History panel for you to learn the history of Gundam anime and model kits.
A showcase of the various generations of Gundams. If you are Gundam model fan, you may want to meet Katsumi Kawaguchi Sensei (professional modeler and also in-charge of Gundam model kit design at Bandai) on 12th and 13th Sept 2009.
More Gundam exhibits to please the mecha-fans as well some of the casual crowds that attended the event.
World of Sangokuden.
BB Senshi Sangokuden Gaiden – Kochu Gundam, Chohi Gundam, Kan-u Gundam, Chouun Gundam and Bacho Blue Destiny.
Otakus and also casual pass-by folk checking out the numerous exhibits. Most are armed with either PNS or SLR cameras.
Gundam 00 standing by and guarding the entrance. ^^;
Cashier for fans to pay for any Gundam model kits purchased during the event. I noted that it was stated 20% discount for regular priced item but I didn’t go inquire at the sales counter the queue there was quite long.
I went to get a drink and only to return to see that the Gundam Image Girls is already on stage posing for all the fans. I didn’t get a good position as I was late.
Check out all the cameras!
But nevertheless, I managed to zoom through some openings to get a fair shot. Here, on the stage, the items (not the 2 pretty ladies) are actually prizes for the Gundam lucky draw.
Gundam girls posing beside Gundam. I understand that the Gundam Image Girls will only be around on 5th, 6th, 12th and 13th September so please note your calendar if you are going to the event to catch them. ^^;
Another shot taken from Char’s Zaku II.
More poses from the Gundam Girls. What a kawaii (かわいい) pose!
Another photo of the Gundam Girls. Can someone tell me their names? Want to give them credits. ^^; Yeah!
Look at the crowd forming. At certain times, it was difficult to maneuver to get good position to take photos. This is taken from the 2nd level of Compass Point.
Some fun stuff that I came across in Compass Point – “Do you know that Singapore was mentioned more than once in Gundam Wing series? It is a important Military base!” Are you aware?
Another fun fact – “Do you know that a society called “International Gundam Society” was established in August 2009? This research group studies the future of mankind through the animated series, Mobile Suit Gundam.” Hmm, I wasn’t aware so I went to google and the conclusion is that it exists (webby is here).
Last fun fact – “Do you know that there was a Singapore Gundam? You can find its appearance in the G Gundam series!”
Brochures that I obtained during the event, many Gundam model kits are on sale (HG Gundam 00 2nd Series, First Gundam MG Series, etc). Feel like getting the MG Gundam Exia Ignition Mode or the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam but the crowd made me decide to come back on a weekday instead of weekend to get my purchase.
In the center fold of the brochure, there is also the BB Senshi Sangokuden Gaiden models for sale! If you are a Gundam fan and currently in Singapore, please do visit Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009! I believe that this event is welcoming and sincerely hope that other similar events will take place in future too!
