Just gotten myself a replacement camera not long ago. Although it packed inside an Olympus paperback but it’s definitely not an Olympus. It’s actually a high-end compact prosumer camera – Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3!

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 costs me S$698 and it comes with the following freebies – 8GB SD Card, mini tripod, cleaning kit, screen protector and a third-party extra battery. For review and specs for LX3, please see here (dpreview.com).

Unboxing the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 – comes with all the usual stuffs like battery charger, power cables, mini USB cables, manuals, etc.

The LCD screen is fitted with the screen protector already. I have asked the folks from the camera store to fix it up to me as I remembered that my clumsy hands did a bad job of putting on Invisible Shield on my HTC Touch Diamond. Haha!

The new versus the old – Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 and Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX8. The FX8 have served me well over the years and it was about time to upgrade it for my street photography use. If you want to know more about FX8, please see here. I would also like to lay my hands on the rumored new Micro Four Thirds Panasonic GF1 too but it’s still a rumor until officially announced. Right? 😛

At the side lens barrel of LX3, you can easily change between Autofocus, Macro and Manual Focus. This gives the more experienced folks a bit more control.

The LX3 screen is amazing. In fact, it’s too good that you might have mistaken that you have taken a great shot! 😛

Changing aspect ratio is so easy on the LX3 as it’s on the lens barrel. There is no need to go several layers deep into the software menu just to make a change.

Without going through the manual, I straight away took the new LX3 out for a test shoot (no settings done too!) – the photos as follows are either taken in intelligent auto (to test capturing of inpromptu situations) or manual mode. This evening shot of Capitol Building was taken around 7:15pm.

Funan DigitaLife Mall at about 8:17pm. A couple was smooching when I took this shot and I didn’t even notice until I was going through the photos. You’ll never know what you will capture when you have a camera by your side! LOL!

Bought Erdinger Special Pack at Jasons Market Place at Raffles City Shopping Centre at S$27.95 as I wanted the tall Erdinger Pint glass. He he! The pack comes with 2 bottles of Erdinger Weissbier, 2 bottles of Erdinger Dunkel, 2 Erdinger wheat glass and 6 Erdinger coasters. And I will definitely attend Erdinger Oktoberfest in Singapore too!

The sky have turned dark. Time for me to go home before it’s start to rain and soak my new LX3. LOL!

So after viewing all the test shoot photoes, what is your view on LX3? I though it was great and I had a fun-filled time with it. I guess it’s also time for me to go through the manual, menu, controls to squeeze more out of the LX3. Happy shooting then!

新与旧的对比- Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3和Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX8. 我用了FX8还多年了是时候为了街头摄影把它给换了。如果你想知道多些关于FX8，请看这里。我也想用有新的谣言Micro Four Thirds Panasonic GF1，但它仍是一个谣言。对吗？:P

在LX3方镜筒旁边，可以轻松地更改自动对焦，微距拍摄和手动对焦。这给有经验的摄影人多一点控制。

LX3屏幕真是惊人。事实上，这不太好，你可能会误以为你已经拍了漂亮的照片！ 😛

改变aspect ratio对LX3说是很容易的，因为就在镜筒。无需进入好几层的软件就为了做出改变。

没有看通过手册我就拿了新的 LX3试拍（没有调设置！）-以下的照片是利用自动式拍的（以测试没有准备的情况下拍的）或手动模式。这Capitol Building的夜景是在7点15分左右拍的。

我在Subway的晚餐 – 烤牛肉三明治S$6.90。添加S$2.30就能得到一包薯片和1个普通饮料。

特写烤牛肉三明治（小麦面包）家蛋黄酱，Chipotle西南酱和黑胡椒。美味！！

晚上8点17分在Funan DigitaLife Mall (福南数码活力广场)。当我在拍照时一对夫妇正在清热，我并没有察觉，直到我再看到照片。你永远不会知道当你拍照时会捕捉到什么！LOL!

On 15th Aug 2009, we went to a newly opened shopping mall called Iluma. It is located in Bugis and prominently situated opposite Bugis Junction.

Inside Iluma, an artist is painting on the wall. We came to know that actually today Iluma is having it’s light up for the unique looking design so there are a number of activities lined up.

Moving on, we came across some acrobatics performance on-going inside the mall and decided to stay to check it out.

OMG! 180 degrees leg split while hanging upside down. The music together with the amazing stunts shown were really entertaining.

Glad that we managed to catch this performance. A loud clap for the children and teens who performed!

We went outside and there was also another Indonesian music performances as well.

At the entrance of Iluma, quite a crowd have gathered to check out the happenings. Notice the unique-looking and diamond-shaped thingy, these will be lighted up tonight. Anticipating it and hope that it will look great!

We were tired walking around and hence stopped by at Breko Café, which is beside Iluma, to take a breather. We decided to sit outside as the weather is cooling and we can still check out the on-goings at Iluma too.

Breko happy hour promotion – 2 bottles of Asahi at S$12++. In fact, you can choose any 2 bottles from a fixed drink list. 🙂

Empire State – a restaurant located at 4th floor. Seems like it’s serving New York styled food.

On the same level, there is a cluster of 7 Japanese restaurants from different prefectures of Japan, which is collectively known as Ebiboshi Shotengai. The end result is somehow like Movenpick Marche Restaurant. The restaurants featured are Katsumiya, Tsubohachi (Japan’s Number One Izakaya), Sanshigo, Menya Manpei, Tora Shabu, Teppan No Hoshi and Sweet Brothers.

Tora Shabu – featuring french maid-styled waitress? Will try someday if they allow photography. 😛

Sweet Brothers – serving Japanese desserts and drinks.

Ebiboshi Shotengai – Ninja School? I want to learn Rasengan and Chidori! Wahaha!

Marble Slab Creamery – the freshest ice cream on earth. Believe this is the first store to be opened in Singapore. I will give it a try the next round.

The main reason we came to Iluma is because we have booked for a movie online at Film Garde. 2 tickets at S$19 and booking fee of S$1.

Sale of drink, popcorn, nachos and other snacks for your munching while enjoying the movie but please don’t disturb your neighbors. 🙂

It’s almost 8pm – the time scheduled for the light up. Outside at the entrance of Iluma, performances still on-going to liven up the atmosphere.

Light up show have finally started and as you can see, it can formed words as well.

The lights are ever moving and it’s like a huge giant TV display (though it’s not flat).

Very bright light up! My opinion is that the display will be very much suitable during Christmas as it’s look so much like snow flakes.

Photos does not do justice to the beautiful display and I wasn’t able to capture video as the camera I had along didn’t have that function!

在09年8月15日，我们到了新开张的大型购物中心，名为Iluma 。它坐落在武吉士和位于白沙浮广场对面。

Iluma内，一位艺术家在作墙上画。我们得知，实际上今天是Iluma 独特的设计的亮灯仪式，所以安排了一些活动。

ILuma内的电动扶梯。使天花板上的独特设计使广场看起来非常时尚。

接着，我们看到一些在商场内进行的杂技表演，并决定留下来看看。

天啊！一百八十度的倒挂皮腿。惊人的特技加上音响效果让节目非常精彩。

很高兴我们看到这个表演。请为儿童和青少年的表演大声鼓掌！

到了外头，也有印尼音乐演奏和其他表演。

在Iluma的入口处，不少人聚集看看发生了什么事。看到独特和菱形的物体吗，今晚这些将会亮起灯来。我相信一定很好看！

我们四处走到厌倦，因此在Breko咖啡休息喘息，就在Iluma的旁边。由于天气正在降温我们决定坐在外面而且还可以检看Iluma的状况。

Breko欢乐时光促销-两瓶Asahi就S$12++。其实你可以从一个固定的酒单选择任何2瓶酒。 🙂

Empire State是一个设在4楼的餐厅。好像卖得是纽约风格的食物。

在同一楼，有一家7间不同日本餐馆混合，也称Ebiboshi Shotengai。最终的结和是有点像Movenpick Marche Restaurant餐厅。精选的餐厅是Katsumiya ， Tsubohachi （日本排名第一的菜）， Sanshigo ， Menya Manpei ，Tora Shabu, Teppan No Hoshi and Sweet Brothers。

非常明亮的灯光！我觉得这会非常适合圣诞节的气氛，因为它的外观像雪花。

Recently, I visited a lesser-known Marina at Keppel Bay, which is located at Keppel Island (Singapore). I knew about this place from some friends a while ago but only managed to explore now. For the location, please view it here (Google Maps).

Yachts lined up at their berths against the iconic bridge. At the background, you can see the cable cars leading to HarbourFront Centre (building on the left) and after which to Sentosa. This is a looping service where the starting point is as The Jewel Box at Mount Faber.

Not sure what is this? But I suppose it’s an equipment used for maintenance of the yacht.

On the ground floor, Privé, which feature 3 different dining experience – fine dining restaurant, waterfront bar and bakery cafe. On the second floor, there is Takumi Tokyo, the coffee connoisseur ( tcc ), The Wine Glass and The Island Suite.

The sun is setting soon. This area is a great place to walk/jog/stroll.

Archipelago Samui Pint S$16++ and Mango Margarita S$16++ at Privé Bakery Cafe. We couldn’t get the best seats (those facing the waterfront) as they were already reserved. If you are thinking to relax here, I suggest placing a reservation early.

Taking a slow stroll in the night at this area is so relaxing. This photo was taken around 9pm and it’s really quiet.

On 9th August 2009, we celebrated Singapore 44th National Day. I didn’t manage to get any tickets (through e-balloting via NDP website) for the National Day Parade (NDP) and hence will have to watch the live telecast on TV. But I can still show you the decorations that the country put up during this period of celebration. The above photo is taken from my apartment window.

Apartment block 406 in Ang Mo Kio – Nice display of Singapore national flag. In fact, all of the flags are displayed and not a single one is missing. Well done!

At Teck Ghee Community Centre.

Several flags placed together to form number “44”, which symbolize 44 years of independence. Thumbs up for the effort but the design……errmm

Flag are displayed almost everywhere to lift the spirits of celebrating Singapore 44th National Day. This photo is taken at Bishan Bus Interchange.

Schools (including private institutions) also join in the decorations and celebration too! Queen Margaret University (QMU) Asia at Ah Hood Road (off Balestier road).

Previously, I understand that Singapore national flag can only be displayed by individuals during the month of August but recently the regulations was relaxed. You can now display the flag during the National Day celebrations period (1 July— 30 September).

Singapore national flag can also be displayed on vehicles (both private and commercial) during the National Day celebrations period.

At VivoCity, overlooking the upcoming Resort Worlds at Sentosa, where a large Singapore national flag in sight.

Shopping is a Singapore favorite national past time so many shops and outlets also do offer various discounts during National Day period, which more of them are 44%, in conjunction with Singapore 44th year of independence.

在2009年8月9日，我们庆祝新加坡第44届国庆。我没得到任何门票（通过新加坡国庆日网站电子投票），因此不得不通过直播电视节目观看新加坡国庆庆典。你仍然可以看看国家为了这庆典的布置。以上照片是从我家窗口拍的。

宏茂桥大牌406-挂满了新加坡国旗。事实上，所有的旗帜都挂出来，没有漏掉任何一个单位。做得好！

Believe to be a Saturday morning, after cleaning my Canon EOS 400D camera (called Digital Rebel XTi in North America and EOS Kiss Digital X in Japan) , then took a photo of my balcony light which looks like a bird nest. No bird nest soup yet… LOL!

Nissin U.F.O. Instant noodles bought from Japan trip in May 2009.

Nissin U.F.O. Instant noodles – The flavoring and garnishes sachets are labeled with numbers. 1 & 2 goes into the pocket next to the noodles and then the hot water goes in.

Then you put sachet number 3 in and stir well! Itadakimasu (いただきます)!!

Robot model that was also from Japan trip in May 2009.

I bought the robot model as I remembered playing with it during my childhood days. Just trying to revive the good old memories…….

Instructions are in Japanese but it’s not a problem as you just need to follow the numbering indicated. I was able to complete it when I was a kid (can’t remember how old). The small white package is a chewing gum which I find does not have taste after 10 chews. LOL!

Tools used during the construction of the model robot – scissors, art knife and letter opener. Errm, letter opener?

The robot model gets it’s position on my desk – sandwiched in-between my speakers and external hard drive.

Going for a dinner at Yoyogi Japanese Restaurant. This is our first time eating here as we found out that the restaurant is not imposing any corkage charges for all the bottles (wine, champagne, sake, etc) that you bring along. 😛

Winson, always on the phone talking to girls….. Wahahaha!

Santen Mori – Salmon, tuna and whitefish S$35.00. In my opinion, very fresh!

Yakitori S$5.00. The 2 bottles of white wine that we bought along is Michel Nellion Chassagne Montrachet 1999. Superb!

Unagi Oshi Sushi S$15.00. We had other items as well but didn’t managed to take photo for all of it.

Occasionally, Winson will bring wine left over from his company wine tasting session over to my house, where we do another round of tasting. Then, we will buy and keep the ones that suits both our palates. Roll call from left to right – 2006 Chateau Magdelaine, 2006 Chateau Certan de May Pomerol, 2006 Chateau La Grave A Pomerol, 2006 Chateau Latour A Pomerol, 2006 L’Hospitalet de Gazin Pomerol and 2005 Chateau Puy-Blanquet.

Chicken Cutlet S$5.00. Both the Chicken Chop and Chicken Cutlet also comes with a garlic bread (not shown in the photos).

I was recommended by my Canadian colleague to watch this show – Shinjuku Incident. Word directly quoted from him – “it’s damn good”. 😛

Watching Shinjuku Incident on my 42 inch Panasonic plasma TV. I also find that it’s a good show as it portray a different perspective of Jackie Chan’s acting.

While watching the show, I also munched on Ika Poppo (whole squid) which I bought during my recent Japan trip in May 2009. The middle of the squid is filled with creamy cheese. Seems like I bought a lot of stuffs during the trip…..Ha ha!

Apple Strudel from my buddy Patrick’s pastry shop (D’pastry at Ubi Ave). Not too sure on the price as he gave a few to us as gifts. It’s yummy – crispy and fillings not too sweet!

Attended Licia’s 1st year old birthday party – really adore her innocent look above. He he! Daddy Frank and Mummy Vivi looks happy too! The lovely “Hello Kitty” birthday cake is also Patrick’s creation (D’pastry at Ubi Ave) in which the main cake is surrounded by multiple “Hello Kitty” cupcakes.

My partner’s birthday is also on the same day as Licia’s and this mango cake was given to us by Patrick and Cynthia (D’pastry at Ubi Ave). Thanks Patrick and Cynthia!

Taking a walk at Takashimaya Singapore – a toy sale which receives good responses from shoppers.

Tea Time Special Promotion (within a specified time) – A coffee of your choice (free flow) and cake set at S$8.00.

Was clearing out some stuffs that I brought over from my mum’s house. Silverhawks toys from my younger days. 😛

相信是星期六早上，在清洗了我的Canon EOS 400D相机后（也在北美市場称为Digital Rebel XTi或日本市場EOS Kiss Digital X），接着拍了我阳台上的吊灯像个鸟巢。可是还没有燕窝汤…LOL!

一群孩子在打架（errm … 上跆拳道课）就在我家楼下的多用途礼堂。照片是从我家窗口拍的。:)

日清U.F.O.方便面，今年五月到日本之行时买的。

日清 U.F.O.方便面-调味料都标有号码。一号和二号加入面旁边的袋子在加热水。

然后再加入三号搅拌好！

机器人模型，也是从今年五月的日本之行买的。

我买了机器人模型因为我记得小时候曾经玩过。只是想恢复昔日的回忆。。。。。

指示都是日本字，但不是一个问题，因为你只需要按照编号指示。我小时候就能够完成了（不记得是多久以前的事了）。白色的小包装是口香糖，咀嚼十次后就没味道了。LOL！

制作模型使用的工具- 剪刀，美术刀和开信刀。Errm，开信刀？

完成的机器人模型。哈哈！

在我桌上找到了个位置放机器人模型 – 夹在我的喇叭和外部硬盘。

到代代木日本餐馆吃晚餐。这是我们第一次在这里用餐因为我们发现这里不附加任何开瓶费（葡萄酒，香槟酒，酒等）。:P

Winson，永远都在和女孩通话。。。。哈哈哈哈!

在我家的42英寸Panasonic Plasma电视看新宿事件。我也觉得是一部好戏- 因为它呈现成龙不同的角度。

在看戏时，我正享受鱿鱼是(在五月的日本之行买的)。鱿鱼的中间是奶油和奶酪。好像我在那次旅行买了很多东西… ..哈哈！

我太太的生日刚好和Licia是同一天，这芒果蛋糕是Patrick 和Cynthia送给我们的（D’pastry at Ubi Ave）。谢谢你！
