Chinese Wedding

Chinese Wedding

Chinese Wedding

Recently went to my cousin’s Chinese wedding (Singapore) and thought it will be nice to share it. In the morning, the groom and the bride will start off very early as per their own family traditions and culture. What we, the relatives will do is to gather at their house to welcome the newly-weds. Prior to their return, we help ourselves to the buffet lunch first!

Chinese Wedding

The spread of food that was catered. 🙂

Chinese Wedding

My first serving. I did 2 rounds. Wahaha!

Chinese Wedding

My partner’s first round.

Chinese Wedding

Orr nee (Yam paste with gingko nuts), which my brother had.

Chinese Wedding

Popular Apple Strudel from Corica (Perth), specially brought back by my aunt.

Chinese Wedding

Group photo of the bride’s mother’s family.

Chinese Wedding

Traditional tea ceremony whereby the groom and bride had to offer tea to their elders. After drinking the tea, the elders will give token gifts that can be Ang Bao (red packet), jewelery, gold, diamond, etc. ^^; The photo above shows the groom and bride offering to their parents, which they had to kneel down.

Chinese Wedding

A photo after the tea offering to my parents. After the tea ceremony and buffet lunch, it’s time to head back home to rest and get ready for the wedding dinner in the night!

Chinese Wedding

Here we are at Carlton Hotel Singapore for the wedding dinner. At the reception area, there are photo album of the newly-weds for the guests to view.

Chinese Wedding

When guests first arrived, they will go to the reception table to

  • Drop off their ang bao/gift for the couple
  • Find out their table seating
  • Get complimentary parking coupons (if driving)

Different “market rate” applies for the ang bao, it really depends on where the wedding banquet is being held at and also how close your relationship with the groom/bride. 🙂

Chinese Wedding

From the ballroom, a view of the lobby area at level 1.

Chinese Wedding

Dinner starting soon. There are 2 VIP tables – one for the groom family and another for the bride family. Sometimes, if the family size is small, the VIP table can be consolidated into 1 too.

Chinese Wedding

Here comes the newly weds (1st march-in). After the march-in, the banquet will start and you can start feasting.

Chinese Wedding

Champagne pouring after the 2nd march-in (usually done around the 3rd or 4th dish).

Chinese Wedding

Traditional toasting time, which everyone will shout “Yum Seng” (drink to success)! The toasting goes on for 3 rounds, each with a different set of wishes to the newly-weds. After the toasting session, the newly-weds will go around the ballroom to take photos with the guests at individual tables. At this point, the guests at the table can play tricks or get the couple to drink! But I think it doesn’t happen a lot these days as I see most newly-weds are still sober at the end of the dinner. The main thing is that they have enjoyed and have a memorable time!

A Week in Singapore 2

A Week in Singapore 2

A Week in Singapore 2

This week post was rather late as I was really caught up with work. This is my take-away lunch where I normally consume on my work desk – mixed vegetables rice that consist of 2 vegetables and 1 meat (chicken) S$2.80.

A Week in Singapore 2

Also whenever I have some spare time, I will try to listen to some music on my home theater system. Currently listening to Enigma: A Posteriori and Rua: Whisper. Nice!

A Week in Singapore 2

From Orchard Central, this is a shot of The CentrePoint which I believe the facade was newly renovated. If I am wrong, that means I haven’t been wandering around Orchard Road for some time already. Haha!

A Week in Singapore 2

From the same location that I took the shot of The CentrePoint, you can see the long flight of escalator (up going only). Also another group of folks setting up their DSLR camera and tripod nearby, possibly also trying to capture The CentrePoint too!

A Week in Singapore 2

Took the lift up to the 8th floor, love the ambiance which greeted my eyes. 🙂

A Week in Singapore 2

Trying to find a restaurant for dinner, Nolboo Hangari Galbi is a Korean restaurant which I believe is very popular in Korea (due to the articles that was shown from Korean newspapers). The queue was pretty long so we decided to skip it and scan through others.

A Week in Singapore 2

Ootoya is also fully packed and tons of people waiting for their turn. This is the first Ootoya opening in Singapore and I very much wanted to try it as I didn’t get to eat it during my trip to Japan during May 09. Sigh…will have to come again on another day. Next time will try to check whether I can make reservations!

A Week in Singapore 2

At the ground floor of Orchard Central, I noticed that the facade lighting of The CentrePoint do change colour. Recently, there are many malls (Orchard Central, ION Orchard, Illuma, etc) with various lighting effects at their facade. Is it the trend now?

A Week in Singapore 2

One of my favorite food! Prawn Dumpling Kway Teow cooked by my mother-in-law. She used to own a stall selling Wonton noodle and Prawn dumpling noodle in Redhill Market and was popular too! But she retired already so only we get to eat it now. Ha ha!

A Week in Singapore 2

Went to SHH Tyres (Toh Guan Road) to change my car tyres which is overused and long overdue to change. I thought I could still exploit it a little more until I drifted during a turn while in a carpark. It was raining so the car and floor was wet. Haha! Decided to go for Hankook after reading some test reports and recommendations.

A Week in Singapore 2

Car up on the jack and the old shoes are removed. Service was pretty fast as they had a few mechanics around.

A Week in Singapore 2

The tyres which was going to be fitted on my car – 205/55ZR16 Hankook Ventus V12 Evo. 4pcs at S$572 (after 20% discount).

A Week in Singapore 2

My Mazda 3 with the new shoes (Hankook Ventus V12 Evo) on. I was advised to run-in for 500km before I try any high speed sprint or wild cornering. 😛

A Week in Singapore 2

Going to Sim Lim Square (SLS) again to check out some stuffs. I seem to be going to SLS pretty often, right? I can imagine that if I were to stay in Tokyo (Japan), maybe I’ll make Akihabara my home? Wahaha!

A Week in Singapore 2

At some of the traffic crossing, you might be able to see red-light cameras around. The camera will take a photo of your car’s bum (with the license plate number) if you beat the red light. By the way, you will need to be captured by the 2 cameras in order to get yourself 12 demerits points and a traffic summon. 😛

A Week in Singapore 2

ERP – “Electronic Road Pricing” or in local context “Every Road Pay”. Wahaha! This ERP gantry is situated at various areas around Singapore to curb congestion and whenever a vehicle pass through it during a stipulated timing, you will have to pay for it. E.g. the above shows that if a private car pass through from 2pm to 530pm, there will be S$1 charge. At different timings, the rates differ too!

A Week in Singapore 2

H-TWO-O Isotonic drink to quench my thirst on a hot sunny day. Bought the drink at a shop in Sim Lim Square for S$1.50.

A Week in Singapore 2

Orient Photo at level 6 of Sim Lim Square to check out some camera stuffs. How is Kata bags?

A Week in Singapore 2

Sim Lim Square interior. I always have something to buy when I come here but have to exercise self-control. Ha ha!

A Week in Singapore 2

Passing by OG Albert and noticed a really huge crowd. Being a busy body, I just gotten check it out – it was actually an uncle and auntie performing a duet. Haha!

A Week in Singapore 2

Ice cream zone? At least 3 portable stalls around here (at OG Albert).

A Week in Singapore 2

Other makeshift stalls selling various stuffs are available too. Seems to be a crowded area too!

A Week in Singapore 2

Passing by Fu Lu Shou Complex.

A Week in Singapore 2

Came across a local singer Chen Wei Lian performing some of his songs inside Bugis Street. Oh yeah, I was surround by many teens. Ha ha!

A Week in Singapore 2

Bugis Street. I should probably cover it solely on a single blog post as there are many items to show. Will do it when I do come by this area again.

A Week in Singapore 2

Bee Cheng Hiang – Selling Bak Kwa (barbeque meat) and other food products.

A Week in Singapore 2

Snack time at Takopachi – 3 Octupus ball for S$2.30.

A Week in Singapore 2

A beauty and wellness event going on at Bugis Junction (fountain area) – My TLB (My The Luxury Booklet).

A Week in Singapore 2

An interview with 2 SYT. 🙂

A Week in Singapore 2

Makeup artist Andy Lee doing his magic on a model. 🙂

A Week in Singapore 2

After the make-up, the model posed for a photo shoot. Kawaii?

A Week in Singapore 2

East Coast Lagoon Food Village – one of my favorite food haunt. There are many good food here and is extremely popular with locals as well. Be prepared to wait for available tables if you happen to reach during the peak dinner timing.

A Week in Singapore 2

East Coast Lagoon Food Village – It’s already quite packed at 6.30pm on a Saturday. Better get a table fast before I have to wait. Hehe!

A Week in Singapore 2

Heading off to queue at Lagoon Leng Kee Beef Kway Teow stall. Look at the long queue! It may take a while but is well worth it!

A Week in Singapore 2

This is what I get after 15min of queuing patiently. Lagoon Leng Kee Beef Kway Teow at S$4. Fantastic! My mouth was salivating as I was typing this post. Slurp!!!

Lumix LX3 Accessories

Lumix LX3 Accessories

Lumix LX3 Accessories

Got a mail in the letter box. Errm? What is it? From Andy’s Camera Straps?

Lumix LX3 Accessories

Well, upon opening the envelope (bubble wrapped inside), the above greeted me. Yes, it’s a camera strap!

Lumix LX3 Accessories

Lug mount wrist strap with O-ring at S$18 and additional strap bumper O-ring at S$1 from Andy’s Camera Straps. Prices includes postage within Singapore. Other colours and model are available as well.

My configuration

  • Leather Colour : Black
  • Wrap Colour : Scarlet Red
  • O-ring Colour : Black

Lumix LX3 Accessories

I have attached the new strap to my Lumix Lx3 camera. How does it look? By the way, the strap is 7 3/4” (196 mm) long, hand-made and also 100% genuine cowhide leather! Very great quality camera strap indeed!

Lumix LX3 Accessories

The strap comes with a 1/2” split ring to attach to the lug of the camera. To prevent any unnecessary scratches from the split ring on the body of the camera, I opt for the additional strap bumper O-ring that is positioned between the split ring and lug. In fact, if you don’t fancy the lug mount version, you may want to go with the string wrist strap, neck strap or sling instead. 🙂

Lumix LX3 Accessories

Also have gotten a modified Ricoh LC-1 self-retaining lens cap at S$60 to replace the original lens cap. Before changing to this, every time when I am taking photos, I have to remove the original lens cap and keep it somewhere safe (very much like using a DSLR camera). But with the Ricoh LC-1, there is no need to do so anymore. 😛

[Update]: Refer to http://bit.ly/5iBvRg for Singapore contact to buy the modified LC-1 but I am not too sure whether he provides international shipping. Those who want the original Ricoh LC-1 can get from Amazon (Link).

Lumix LX3 Accessories

Transform and roll-out! Haha! Modified Ricoh LC-1 in action upon power up at 24mm.

Lumix LX3 Accessories

The modified Ricoh LC-1 comes with special filed-down rubber spacer that are added to all the three flaps. No shadows or vignetting at all!

Overall, I am pretty satisfied with both loots and will probably start to source around for a handy protective case for my LX3. Will update soon!

Chinatown Singapore

Recently, I visited Chinatown Singapore to get some stuffs as well as exploring as it had been a while since I last came. Usually, I always come here after office hours to grab dinner as there are a lot of good food here in Chinatown!

Chinatown Singapore

Having a kopi (coffee with milk) at Pick & Bite Cafe before starting to stroll around.

Chinatown Singapore

From Pick & Bite Cafe, you can see the yellow and green People’s Park Complex. It used to be in another bright color as well, I remembered it was orange and green. Wah!

Upper level of People’s Park Complex are rows of shop dealing with textile and tailoring stuffs.

Chinatown Singapore

Thousand taste. Wah! It’s a stall selling kueh, snacks, ngo hiang, etc.

Chinatown Singapore

Look at the folks queuing up for foreign currency exchange – People’s Park Complex seems to be a popular area to do foreign currency exchange. Just remember to check out the rates before committing. I usually do my foreign exchange at The Arcade or Mustafa (because of 24hr operation and online viewing of rates).

Chinatown Singapore

On the top of the bridge which links People’s Park Complex to the opposite Pagoda Street.

Chinatown Singapore

Lucky Chinatown. If you visit this place, you will be lucky. 😛

Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

In celebration of Gundam 30th anniversary, an event Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009 (organized by Bandai Asia and Sheng Tai Toys) is held from 2nd to 14th September 2009 at Compass Point (Sengkang). I believe this is the first time a Gundam only event of such scale was held in Singapore.

Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

Errm, we don’t get to have the 1:1 60 feet life-size Gundam statue (See Google Images) as Tokyo Odaiba but this Gundam 00 is enough to get all the shutterbugs and mecha-fans attention! It’s really difficult to get a shot of Gundum 00 without anyone posing in front. 🙂

Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

One of the walls at Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009. Nice artwork that incorporated Gundam and BB Senshi Sangokuden Gaiden. 🙂

Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

History panel for you to learn the history of Gundam anime and model kits.

Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

A showcase of the various generations of Gundams. If you are Gundam model fan, you may want to meet Katsumi Kawaguchi Sensei (professional modeler and also in-charge of Gundam model kit design at Bandai) on 12th and 13th Sept 2009.

Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

More Gundam exhibits to please the mecha-fans as well some of the casual crowds that attended the event.

Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

World of Sangokuden.

Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

BB Senshi Sangokuden Gaiden – Kochu Gundam, Chohi Gundam, Kan-u Gundam, Chouun Gundam and Bacho Blue Destiny.

Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

Otakus and also casual pass-by folk checking out the numerous exhibits. Most are armed with either PNS or SLR cameras.

Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

Gundam 00 standing by and guarding the entrance. ^^;

Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

Cashier for fans to pay for any Gundam model kits purchased during the event. I noted that it was stated 20% discount for regular priced item but I didn’t go inquire at the sales counter the queue there was quite long.

Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

I went to get a drink and only to return to see that the Gundam Image Girls is already on stage posing for all the fans. I didn’t get a good position as I was late. 🙂

Check out all the cameras!

Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

But nevertheless, I managed to zoom through some openings to get a fair shot. Here, on the stage, the items (not the 2 pretty ladies) are actually prizes for the Gundam lucky draw.

Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

Gundam girls posing beside Gundam. I understand that the Gundam Image Girls will only be around on 5th, 6th, 12th and 13th September so please note your calendar if you are going to the event to catch them. ^^;

Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

Another shot taken from Char’s Zaku II.

Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

More poses from the Gundam Girls. What a kawaii (かわいい) pose!

Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

Another photo of the Gundam Girls. Can someone tell me their names? Want to give them credits. ^^; Yeah!

Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

Look at the crowd forming. At certain times, it was difficult to maneuver to get good position to take photos. This is taken from the 2nd level of Compass Point.

Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

Some fun stuff that I came across in Compass Point – “Do you know that Singapore was mentioned more than once in Gundam Wing series? It is a important Military base!” Are you aware?

Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

Another fun fact – “Do you know that a society called “International Gundam Society” was established in August 2009? This research group studies the future of mankind through the animated series, Mobile Suit Gundam.” Hmm, I wasn’t aware so I went to google and the conclusion is that it exists (webby is here).

Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

Last fun fact – “Do you know that there was a Singapore Gundam? You can find its appearance in the G Gundam series!”

Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

Brochures that I obtained during the event, many Gundam model kits are on sale (HG Gundam 00 2nd Series, First Gundam MG Series, etc). Feel like getting the MG Gundam Exia Ignition Mode or the RX-0 Unicorn Gundam but the crowd made me decide to come back on a weekday instead of weekend to get my purchase. 🙂

Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

In the center fold of the brochure, there is also the BB Senshi Sangokuden Gaiden models for sale! If you are a Gundam fan and currently in Singapore, please do visit Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009! I believe that this event is welcoming and sincerely hope that other similar events will take place in future too!Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

我们虽然 没有東京御台场的60英尺高机动战士雕像(看谷歌图像), 但是足以让所有的摄影爱好者和机器人迷关注!要拍摄Gundum 00又没有人当着真不容易。:)

机动战士00在看守门口。 ^^;

Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

你可以在这里为任何的机动战士模型付费。我注意到无特价产品有20%折扣可是我并没有到柜台询问因为太多人了。

Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

我去卖饮料回来才发现机动战士女孩已经在台上了。因为来迟了所以每占到好位置。:)

看看所有的相机!

Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

无论如何, 我设法通过空位拍到好镜头。在台上的奖品(当让不是两个女孩)是机动战士的抽奖奖品。

Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

机动战士旁边的女孩在摆姿势。我知道机动战士女孩只有在五号,六号, 十二号和十三号出现所以如构想看就记得日期。 ^^;

Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

从Char’s Zaku II拍的另一个角度。

Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

机动战士女孩的更多姿势。好可爱!

Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

另一张机动战士女孩的照片。谁可以告诉我她们的名字?想赞赏她们。^^;

Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

看看形成的人群。有时候很难有好的位置拍照。这是在勘宝坊二楼拍的。

Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

一些我在勘宝坊碰到有趣的东西- 你知道吗,在新机动战记钢弹W系列里新加坡不止一次被提到?是重要的军士基地!

Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

另一个有趣的事实 – 你知道一个成为”国际机动战士协会“的社会成立于 2009年8月?这个研究小组通过新机动战记钢弹动画系列研究人类的未来。我不晓的所以到网上察看结果真的有这个协会(网页在此)。

Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

最后一个有趣的事实- “你知道吗,有新加坡机动战士?你可以在G新机动战记系列找到!

Gundam Fiesta Singapore 2009

A Week in Singapore 1

A Week in Singapore 1

Having lunch at a restaurant (coffee shop style).

A Week in Singapore 1

Going through the menu and trying to determine what to order. Finally, decided on having Dim Sum.

A Week in Singapore 1

For starters – Shredded Chicken Porridge. Need to add a bit of soy sauce to bring it to taste.

A Week in Singapore 1

Then the whole load of Dim Sum arrived at the same time – Shao mai, har gow (shrimp dumpling), char siu baau, rice noodle roll (cheong fun) and lotus leaf rice (lo mai gai). Burp!!

A Week in Singapore 1

The Body Shop was having 20% store wide discount so I decided give Nettle Oil Balance Shampoo a try. So far it’s working well by removing excess oil but yet doesn’t irritate or dry up my scalp.

A Week in Singapore 1

Some food shopping from a local supermarket – 2 Fruit Tree juice at S$4.55 and 1 Kiwifruit Gold at S$4.15.

A Week in Singapore 1

Walking towards Brotzeit which is a German bier bar and restaurant. Bier is the German and Dutch word for beer.

After – Unsigned 1.40 OliNex, DeepShining 8.0 Service Pack 0.3 and Radio 1.09.25.23. Running fine except there’s a few minor flaws but I am still pretty satisfied with it. For more details on flashing, go xda-developers.com.

Usually we don’t go to huge departmental stores to get our fragrance as some smaller shops tend to have better pricing. Both are from Banana Republic – Alabaster for Woman S$85 and Slate for Man S$85.

Another round of replenishing food at local supermarket. 🙂

  • The instant noodles and soup are for hungry situations
